Bob Newhart, dressed as Obi Kenobi, acting as a sex therapist to Sheldon in a dream sequence? Sheldon has decided to give Amy his genitals for her birthday. It tickles this writer’s desert-dry funny bone to the core.
Sheldon doesn’t know the first thing about ‘coitus’ other than the definition he’s read in a dictionary: ‘physical union of male and female genitalia accompanied by rhythmic movements’. That in itself is too funny for words, especially when delivered by Sheldon.
Chuck Lorre and his writing team have brilliantly joined the much awaited Star Wars movie with Sheldon and Amy’s very first romp in the bedroom and they rock the planet, much like the big bang.
The episode starts with the beginning crawl of a Star Wars movie, a spoof about Sheldon ‘going where no man has gone before…’ Sheldon sacrifices seeing the premier of Star Wars, with his friends, in order to spend her birthday with Amy. But how to proceed after he decides that this is the moment…coitus. So the hilarious Bob Newhart arrives in Sheldon’s dream to advise him on the act.
Sheldon and Amy’s act of coitus was sweet, innocent, endearing and funny. Meanwhile, his friends enjoy coitus, of a different sort, watching Star Wars on the big screen. The afterglow of both the lovers and Leonard, Raj and Howard sitting in the movie theatre; post film, was fall down funny.
Recently when Mayim Bialik (Amy Farrah Fowler) was asked: Now that Amy and Sheldon have shared such an intimate and important moment, what would you like to see next for the couple?
‘I honestly will be happy to go back to all of the kinds of things we did before the breakup—funny scenes, touching scenes, scenes with the whole gang. I don’t think that every episode will be about a monumental relationship move, and I’m grateful for that. Our show tends to be about the day-to-day lives of these unusual people rather than monumental events in their relationships. And we like it that way!’
That would suit this super-fan to a tee. Don’t mess with brilliant writing and a story-line that satisfies on so many levels.
Now some of my friends and fans might be wondering; why is Trish posting about a TV show? Because no matter where the excellent writing appears, we, as writers, should take inspiration from it. For me? The Big Bang Theory writing team is one of the best in the universe!
