Chuck Lorre…Vanity Blog (The Big Bang Theory)

writing, blogs, blogger, comedy, Chuck Lorre, iconic televisionChuck Lorre, creator of The Big Bang Theory, (Young Sheldon, Mike & Molly, and Two and a Half Men and numerous movies) has been writing vanity blogs way before the word ‘blog‘ was coined.  If you have a ‘pause’ button on your remote, it’s certainly worth a read. It appears at the very end of each episode, after the credits and ‘Coming next week‘ stuff.

“When I was a little boy I was constantly worried about myself and my family being killed by an atom bomb. Air raid drills and hiding in underground shelters were an almost daily part of my young life. (Remove all pens, pencils and sharp objects from your breast pocket, take off your glasses, look away from the window, find a buddy, hold hands, no talking, walk quickly to the basement, get on your knees, place your head against the wall, wait for the all-clear signal, hope the teacher forgets about the arithmetic test you didn’t study for.) Looking back, it was a ridiculously traumatic way to grow up. But like so many awful things, you got used to it. The fear of instant annihilation was just always there, lurking in the background. Until it wasn’t. Somehow, over time, the inevitability of the mushroom cloud simply went away. Wise and prudent men in our country and others, found a better way to exercise their hatred and fear of each other’s social and economic system. Until now. Now the wise and prudent men are no more, and the unthinkable is back on the table. Death and suffering on an unimaginable scale is once again an option. The low drumbeat of existential dread has returned, and I find myself thinking odd thoughts, like: “I hope someone reminds him that he can’t play golf in a Hazmat suit.”

And now, as if his brilliance couldn’t reach higher heights, there’s spin-off show when Sheldon was a kid living in conservative, Bible-belt, Texas. If you love Sheldon in Big Bang, and we all do, you will adore this nerdy little kid (played by Iain Armitage) who’s smarter than anyone in his ‘little kid orb’.  It might take you a show or two to realize the clever, subtle writing in this show when it appears to be so broad and red-neck, but trust me it really is our adored (grown-up) Sheldon as a kid.
My second favorite actor is the Mom, Mary. Played by Zoe Perry you’d swear it was Laurie Metcalf (Sheldon’s grownup Mom) when she was younger.  And then there’s Annie Potts. Remember her from Designing Women and Ghost Busters? She’s back as Sheldon’s Memaw (grandmother) and is a riot!!!

But I digress, just a little bit. Chuck Lorre’s vanity cards aka blog: I will never come close to his writing talent. But I can try. I can encourage others to try. And I can simply sit back and enjoy Lorre’s genius just for the sake of genius!

Sheldon & Amy Rock the Planet, much like the Big Bang!

Coitus.2.BobNewhardBob Newhart, dressed as Obi Kenobi, acting as a sex therapist to Sheldon in a dream sequence? Sheldon has decided to give Amy his genitals for her birthday. It tickles this writer’s desert-dry funny bone to the core.

Sheldon doesn’t know the first thing about ‘coitus’ other than the definition he’s read in a dictionary: ‘physical union of male and female genitalia accompanied by rhythmic movements’. That in itself is too funny for words, especially when delivered by Sheldon.

Chuck Lorre and his writing team have brilliantly joined the much awaited Star Wars movie with Sheldon and Amy’s very first romp in the bedroom and they rock the planet, much like the big bang.

Who is that Actor? The Not-so-Famous, Obscure Actors..

‘I love that actor!  Wasn’t he on Boston Legal?  What’s his name?  Didn’t she used to have her own show? Can you name him/her?  (Answers below if you get stumped.)

Just last week he had a guest appearance in the wildly popular “Manhattan” (Manhattan Project was the code word for the development of the A-bomb)  In 1999, He appeared in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode “Bad Girls” as a morbidly obese demon named Balthazar. He wore a large padded suit and extensive make-up for the role, and the character’s repulsive, villainous nature contradicted many of his earlier roles.  Recently, He has become known for his role as Jerry “Hands” Espenson on the television series Boston Legal. For playing Espenson, he won an Emmy Award for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2006 and was nominated for the same award in 2007. He remained with the series through to its finale in 2008.  In 2009, He joined CSI: Miami as the new medical examiner, Dr. Tom Loman. Leonard Said, ‘Yes!’ The Big Bang Theory!

Half in fun, half serious Penny and Leonard have been proposing to each other, always confident that they would turn each other down.  Within the brilliant writing of Chuck Lorre’s writing team,  Leonard and Penny are arguing.  Viewers squirm at how awkward the scene is, (again, the brilliance of Lorre’s writing) and then there is one last proposal and Leonard tells Penny ‘Yes! I’ll be your bran-muffin.’

Then in a pure moment of geek love, Leonard gets down on one knee in front of Penny, opens his wallet and digs around until he finds the ring he’s been carrying around ‘for a while’ (two years).  He purposes very formally and Penny says ‘yes’.  Leading up to this momentous event the episode was a delightful collection of vignettes of each couple and their strange and wonderful love for each other.  Sheldon’s description of his written relationship agreement with Amy, and Continue reading “Leonard Said, ‘Yes!’ The Big Bang Theory!”

The World Stood Still….Sheldon Kissed Amy

writing, blogs, blogger, comedy, Chuck Lorre, iconic television      A few nights ago Sheldon kissed (really kissed! There were four lips involved) Amy Farrah Fowler and the world stood still….at least ours did.  You could hear a universal gasp!

Have you ever paused your television in order to read Chuck Lorre’s vanity page?  (that’s what he calls it)  He is the head writer, creator and mastermind behind The Big Bang Theory.   I think his take on life and how we all muddle through it is dryer than my morning toast and I loves my humor dry.  Did I mention that he was ‘blogging’ before the word had been invented?

Now, I know that I will never write comedy and really don’t aspire to do so. It’s not my thing and if I’m funny when I write I assure you it’s an accident.  In my opinion,  the brilliance in the writing for The Big Bang Theory script is excelled by none in today’s culture.  Finally!  The geeks and ‘not-cool’ kids are fashionable and we cooler kids care about them.  (lol)  Continue reading “The World Stood Still….Sheldon Kissed Amy”
